Tour Description
Our most complete off-road tour in Barbagia, to discover the town-museum of Orgosolo, in the center of Sardinia and the Supramonte, with the archaic traditions of Sardinian pastoral life! All our excursions are designed in compliance with all the necessary balances for a healthy, sustainable and profitable tourist experience also for the local population.
Tour Itinerary Stops
Stop 1: Depart Orosei toward Orgosolo (120 Mins)
Depart from Orosei on board our Land Rovers toward Orgosolo, one of the most important towns in Barbagia for its rich traditions and murals. Travel through the spectacular and rugged landscape of the Supramonte, which has served as a refuge for shepherds and bandits for centuries, and learn about the natural and cultural heritage of central Sardinia.
Stop 2: Giants' Tomb of Madau (20 Mins)
Visit one of the largest and best-preserved Giants' Tombs in the Barbagia region. Explore the stone structures and learn about the Bronze Age Nuragic civilization that inhabited these mountains 3,500 years ago.
Stop 3: Monte Novo San Giovanni (60 Mins)
Drive past the high pastures of Pratobello and take a short hike to the limestone cliffs of Monte Novo San Giovanni at 1,316 meters. This rocky environment is a nesting zone for wild cats, Bonelli's eagles, and peregrine falcons.
Stop 4: Pastoral Lunch in "Su Pinnetu" (180 Mins)
Stop under the old-growth holm oaks of the Supramonte to eat a traditional pastoral lunch inside a traditional stone-and-branch shelter (Su Pinnetu). The shepherd and his family prepare boiled sheep, roasted suckling pig (Su Porcheddu), aged pecorino cheese, Cannonau red wine, and traditional Filu 'e Ferru brandy.
Stop 5: Orgosolo Murals Tour (60 Mins)
Observe the public murals painted along the streets and squares of Orgosolo's historical center. Learn about the history and political context of the street art that colors the facades of the village.
