Experience the unique culinary heritage of Orgosolo at the Carasau Bread Museum. Tucked away on a street corner in the historic center and framed by the town's famous socio-political murals, this museum occupies a structure dating back to approximately 1848, preserved in its original layout and authentic period typicality.
The museum houses ancient utensils used for centuries to produce the signature flatbreads of Orgosolo: "Su Pane Tostu" (traditional Pane Carasau) and "s'ispianada" (the local esplanade bread). During this immersive workshop, you will put your "hands in dough" to learn the secrets of mixing, rising, and baking flatbread inside a wood-fired oven.
The session includes a showing of a short documentary film starring three elderly local Orgolesi who share historical details. After the hands-on activity, enjoy freshly baked carasau bread served with local cheeses made by Nuoro shepherds, paired with a glass of robust Cannonau red wine, the symbol of Sardinian long-life and tradition.
Participants are guided through every phase of the traditional process:
Note: Advanced booking of at least 24 hours is required, as the wood-fired ovens must be preheated in advance.
